Methanex is New Zealand’s only methanol manufacturer. We produce methanol at our plant in Taranaki; approximately 95 per cent of our production is exported to customers in the Asia Pacific region.
Methanex actively contributes to the social and cultural development of neighbouring communities through a variety of social responsibility programs, many of which focus on education and building safer communities. In 2022, we began a ten-year partnership to support the development of a new neonatal unit at the Taranaki Base Hospital with a $2 million investment. We also work closely with local indigenous peoples – the hapū and iwi, to ensure that the land we operate on, and the environment we work in, are respected and protected at all times.

Safety Case Summary
WorkSafe New Zealand requires all Major Hazard Facilities (which include our sites) to provide a written safety case report that describes how we keep our operations safe, how we reduce or eliminate hazards and risks that have the potential to cause a major incident, and how we are prepared to respond to any potential major incidents. Read the Safety Case Summary for our New Zealand sites.
Safety is our number one priority and we’re proud that our facilities have won awards for environmental excellence and industrial safety.
