Methanex claims awards at the Business Excellence Awards

Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards 2023.

Motunui, New Zealand, November 23, 2023: Methanex New Zealand, the Taranaki-based producer of methanol, claimed major awards at the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce TSB Business Excellence Awards.

The company, which is part of Methanex Corporation who is the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol, won two awards at the event held at the TSB Stadium which featured many of the region’s top businesses.

The company claimed the Large Business Excellence and Manufacturing, Engineering or Trades Excellence awards.

New Zealand Managing Director Stuart McCall said the success is due to the dedicated team at Methanex and their ongoing commitment to delivering a top-quality product.

“We wouldn’t be receiving this award without our fantastic team. These awards recognise a team where each person works together to create a powerful impact.”

“The ongoing success of our region relies on our talented people and growing our existing businesses as we transition to lower-emission solutions. We have recently invested in a Distillation Debottlenecking emission reduction project, one of the largest in New Zealand, which has the potential to reduce the site’s carbon emissions by over 50,000 tonnes per annum, the equivalent of taking 20,000 cars off the road.

”Methanex is also investing in the future of the community, McCall said, helping make Taranaki a better place for families and attracting and retaining a high-skilled workforce.

“We work really closely with our community, and we want to contribute to Taranaki in a positive way. One way we can do that is to support causes that will make a tangible difference to local whānau, like our 10-year partnership with the Taranaki Health Foundation to support the Methanex Neonatal Unit. We’re really proud of that partnership because it means that we can help support future generations. We have also donated our prize money from the awards night to the Foundation.”

The judges said Methanex was an impressive, well-structured organisation.

“You clearly care deeply about your staff and the wider stakeholder group. Be proud of your achievements and how the business has contributed positively to our community for many years.”

McCall said the judge’s comments were fantastic recognition for the organisation.
