Summer Intern – Data Analyst (Metal Dusting)

Position Summary

To determine from empirical data if metal dusting potential can be defined by a relationship between the process conditions and metal composition.

Position Responsibilities

  • Catalogue the database of metal dusting instances from published, plant and laboratory reports
  • Identify the compositions of all alloys in the database
  • Identify the process or test gas compositions of all dusting instances in the database
  • For the alloy with the most data validate the “carbon equivalent” concept for dusting vulnerability
  • For the alloy with the widest range of temperature datapoints plot the proposed ‘metal equivalent’ against known dusting, tune the metal equivalent formula for a better fit
  • Validate the metal equivalent with a different alloy dusting dataset

Position Qualifications

  • Completed 3rd or 4th year of Engineering degree (Chemical or Mechanical)
  • Decision Making
  • Strong software and coding skills
  • Analytical and research experience
  • Results driven, and goal orientated
  • Well organised
  • Communicates well within own group and other departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to pick up and learn new programming languages
  • NZ Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle as there is no public transport available to work site
