Position Summary

To lead, manage and be responsible for Mechanical engineering work across the New Zealand business assets, using Mechanical engineering expertise and appropriate resources. Ensure work is completed in a safe and cost-effective manner, within budget and schedule and to the standards required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage the Mechanical engineering workload across all New Zealand sites, providing expertise and specialist mechanical engineering knowledge to meet business requirements.
  • Lead mechanical engineering’s technical support to the business to improve and optimise plant operation, reliability, safety, productivity and efficiency.
  • Lead engineers to ensure designs and construction work packages are customer focussed, clear, detailed and feasible, to ensure safety, quality, cost and schedule targets are met and the design can be executed safely and efficiently.
  • To coach, performance manage and build long-term development plans for direct reports enhancing team capabilities.
  • To manage team operating budget and to support the Finance Department with accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Support the tender process and award contracts in conjunction with the Procurement Team.
  • Manage the Management of Change process for Mechanical Engineering and provide final approval of the engineering deliverables in the initiation, preparation and closeout phases.
  • Ensure appropriate hazard, risk, design and reliability reviews are conducted, input from appropriate disciplines is sought and that issues identified are actioned.
  • To support the construction and commissioning phases of projects by ensuring technical coordination with the Project Execution Team.
  • Develop and maintain systems and procedures to ensure mechanical engineering work is always compliant with Methanex standards and New Zealand legislation.

Position Qualifications

  • BE, BSc or Tertiary Mechanical Engineering Qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Management encompassing all aspects from conceptual development, design and execution, through construction and close out
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the petrochemical industry
  • Minimum of five years leadership experience
  • In depth knowledge of Methanex standards and procedures and industry best practice
  • Proven budgeting and cost control experience
  • Safety and quality culture in design and construction
