As global demand for chemicals and marine transportation continues to grow, there is increasing pressure to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable supply.
As one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of methanol, Methanex plays an active role in this transition. Methanol is a versatile, cleaner‑burning fuel that can improve air quality compared to coal and conventional marine fuels, and it can be produced through multiple lower‑carbon pathways, including biomethanol and methanol with carbon capture.
Guided by the Responsible Care® Ethic and Principles for Sustainability, Methanex is focused on reducing emissions and maintaining reliability from our operations, ensuring the safety of our people and processes towards the goal of zero harm, and supporting customer demand toward a lower‑carbon future.

We care deeply about the people and environments where we live and work, and we believe our business should have a positive impact on society. Methanex supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help reduce inequality, protect the planet, and support sustainable development by 2030.
To focus our efforts, we conducted an internal assessment to identify the SDGs where we can have the greatest impact through our operations. We report on the SDGs most directly influenced by our business, as well as those we support indirectly through community investments and partnerships. As our sustainability efforts evolve, we will continue to align with the SDGs in support of a more equitable and sustainable world.
