Turnaround Supervisor

Position Summary

Leads the planning and preparation phases of the Turnaround (TAR), ensuring timely execution and efficient use of resources to support safe, cost-effective outcomes.

Provides accurate and timely progress reports for TAR execution, including schedule performance, cost forecasts, budget alignment, risk tracking, and key metrics.

Drives productivity and asset efficiency by minimizing delays and downtime through effective planning and scheduling practices.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate progress reports with schedule, cost, budget, risk, and performance metrics.
  • Ensures work plans are properly scoped and resourced, including materials, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees procurement and delivery tracking of all required items.
  • Supports craft teams by coordinating additional resources for scope changes.
  • Validates manpower, tools, materials, and equipment readiness before execution.
  • Develops contingency plans to minimize plant risk during shutdowns.
  • Leads planning and reporting of emergent work, including material procurement.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and performance oversight of Turnaround/Outage planning and readiness contractors.
  • Ensures all contractor-led planning and readiness activities are aligned with site standards, integrated across functions, delivered on schedule, and ready to execute a safe, efficient, and cost-effective Turnarounds/Outages.
  • Monitors work productivity and schedule efficiency to drive improvement efforts.
  • Helps ensure work is executed in alignment with the turnaround schedule and milestones.
  • Supports recovery plans for behind-schedule activities.
  • Identifies and reconciles cost and schedule variances with budget owners.
  • Manages detailed work schedules using Primavera.
  • Ensures coordination among Planners, Schedulers, Maintenance Supervisors, Craftsmen, Storeroom personnel, and Operations Coordinators.
  • Manages shutdown planning.
  • Manages the TAR Emergent Work Request system.
  • Coordinates and supervises field activities as required.
  • Ensures timely reporting of TAR activities and provides stakeholder updates.
  • Tracks daily progress and reports completed work, delays, and constraints.
  • Ensures delivery of actionable schedules to job fronts and leadership.
  • Develops systems to monitor planning effectiveness and compliance.
  • Troubleshoots scheduling issues and resolves conflicts collaboratively.
  • Supports coordination of mechanical completion and system turnover activities.
  • Leads cost estimate development and reviews with contractors and service providers.
  • Ensures event risks are properly documented and effectively mitigated.
  • Conducts post-TAR reviews to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Oversees document control and revision management of work packages.
  • Tracks scope progress and critical path activities; communicates schedule-sensitive tasks.
  • Assists TAR Manager with all aspects of the Stage Gate Governance Review process.
  • Ensures timely completion of turnaround reviews and closeout reports.
  • Facilitates the Lessons Learned process and integrates findings into future planning.
  • Reviews executed job packages for improvement opportunities.
  • Mentors Planners to ensure consistent use of planning procedures and CMMS tools.
  • Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism.

  • Networks with other Methanex sites to the mutual benefit of all sites.
  • Responsible for ensuring awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position as per Document Awareness Report from Document Management Database.
  • Contributes to the ‘operational excellence’ for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Turnaround Department.

Position Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in a planning role in chemical manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years in leadership role preferred.
  • Have in depth knowledge of planning and scheduling methodology.
  • Experience working in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate with a wide cross section of people.
  • High level of knowledge of Maintenance job planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Experienced user of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Development and configuration experience would be an advantage. Previous Maximo use would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Primavera scheduling software.
  • Experience scheduling within a turnaround environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with “Business Intelligence” tools and reporting systems.
  • Experienced with Industrial Maintenance practices and systems.
