Position Summary

The Project Services Specialist is a key subject matter expert that provides project and analytics services to the central Projects & Turnaround (TAR) Team.

Project Services Specialist supports the Director, Manufacturing Projects & TAR Excellence to ensure best practices for Project Services (related to Manufacturing Projects & Turnarounds) are executed in accordance with the Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP), Turnaround standards and the associated guidelines.

The role provides guidance, mentoring and/or reviews of manufacturing regional project and TAR estimations, scheduling, progress, cost management and project risk considerations through active participation in the capital planning process, reporting project performance against the capital plan and keeping the organization appraised of variations to the plan.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development of the 3-year Global Manufacturing Capital plan in accordance with the manufacturing capital planning process. Works with manufacturing regions to compile and maintain the global capital plans and co-ordinates the global forecasting across all manufacturing sites.
  • Works with Senior Analyst, Global Manufacturing to ensure all required manufacturing capital reporting is incorporated into global manufacturing and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Supports and executes analytical analysis across the global capital portfolio, inclusive of TAR events, providing performance measures for monitoring and reporting.
  • Ensure Manufacturing Projects are managed in accordance with the Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) Project Services Standards & Guidelines.
  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement and embedding of Project Services best practices into MCMP and TAR project development, standards and guidelines.
  • Assess and support Project Service considerations and cost estimations at project stage gate reviews as requested.
  • Coordinates the development of standardized site-specific project controls procedures, work practices and associated reporting (ex. Cost reporting, EVM, etc.)
  • Identify efficiency improvements and drive opportunities for standardized reporting automation and optimization.
  • Provide subject matter expert level guidance, mentorship and data to site teams to support the consistent development of project elements (i.e. estimates, resource loading, etc.)
  • Provide support for non-standard projects where requested.
  • Support resolution of project reporting inaccuracies.
  • Support reviews, audits of project services, including execution strategies, of third-party contractors/EPCs.
  • Support in the analysis and evaluation of tender submissions as requested.
  • Support project and TAR risk identification and management as needed.
  • Provides project services support to for select projects being managed by the Central Projects team including:
    • leading or overseeing cost estimation, scheduling, project controls & cost management and associated reporting in accordance with MCMP and other applicable corporate standards.
    • support the development and maintenance of project risk management processes and registers.
    • support the development and delivery of project reporting

Position Qualifications

  • Formal qualification (Engineering, Construction Management or Business) with 5+ years experience including field contractor and Owner’s organizations.
  • 8+ years’ combined experience in project and turnaround environments
  • Experience in Estimating, Cost Control & Scheduling on a major capital project as part of an Owner team
  • Experience with Project Risk Management and incorporation of mitigation strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse information
  • Ability to deal with technical and non-technical persons and explain technical concepts and analysis in simple terms
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people – both internally across all levels, and also external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build positive partnerships
  • Ability to multi-task, and manage multiple priorities in a high paced and change-constant environment
