Senior Marine Accountant (12-14 month term)

Position Summary

The Senior Marine Accountant reports to the Supervisor, Accounting of Waterfront Shipping Limited (WFS) and is responsible for preparing monthly voyage estimates, financial reporting, complex accounting calculations, and supporting critical monthly and quarter-end reporting. The position combines accounting skills with financial systems knowledge to deliver high-quality financial reporting and works with the WFS Finance team on management reporting. Additionally, this role is cross-trained to provide coverage for peers.

This is a 12-14 month contract position.  The expected hiring salary range for this position is CAD $87,000 – $106,000.  The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies and will consider internal equity.

Position Responsibilities

  • Month-end/Quarter-end activities related to financial reporting and analysis including:
    • Shared lead for actual and estimated voyage costs
    • In-depth analysis of monthly voyage revenue and costs
    • Preparation of quarterly prepaid reconciliations for half the vessel fleet for hire, bunker and port expenses
    • Lead approval for Accounts Receivable journal entries as well as providing guidance to AR Accounting Assistant on troubleshooting issues
    • Preparation of Shipping Forecast to determine cost of delivering methanol by tradelane
    • First reviewer of accrued commission reconciliation and others as directed
  • Lead preparer of transfer pricing calculations including capturing quarterly methanol volumes discharged, average days in port, backhaul profitability, deadfreight incurred, etc. Support reviewer of calculations.
  • Liaise with accounting staff in all regions to create solutions to challenges on the AR balances
  • Enhance consistency and quality of global reports and processes
  • Act as key liaison for IMOS ERP system, working with internal and external IMOS delegates
  • Preparation of Waterfront Tanker Services Pte Ltd (‘WTS’) Financial Statements  and local tax filings
  • Quarterly Tradelane reporting for JV Partner
  • Preparation of GST returns and Corporation Tax schedules
  • Participate in internal and external audits (e.g. SOX testing); prepare process walk throughs, coordinate with internal audit team on findings, investigate solutions

Position Qualifications

  • Formal accounting education, with accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent)
  • 5+ years in a corporate accounting role, including experience in multi-entity and global reporting and full-cycle accounting; exposure to FP&A an asset
  • Working knowledge of ERP/Integrated accounting systems and reporting tools
  • Strong analytical ability coupled with advanced Excel skills; exposure to FP&A an asset
