Position Summary
As an Operations Graduate, you will undergo a structured training and development program that combines theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience in plant operations. This role is designed to prepare you as a Field Operator, responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant processes and equipment. You are expected to uphold Methanex’s core values in every aspect of the role, including integrity, trust, respect, and professionalism.
Position Responsibilities
Field Operations & Routine Duties
- Perform regular field rounds and routine inspections of assigned equipment and systems.
- Collect field readings, monitor instruments, and report abnormal conditions or trends.
- Gather and deliver process samples for laboratory analysis as per schedule or need.
- Assist in the start-up, shutdown, and normal operation of various process units and utility systems.
- Participate in equipment troubleshooting, identifying early signs of malfunction or inefficiency.
Safety & Emergency Response
- Follow all plant safety protocols and participate actively in safety drills.
- Be part of the first response team for plant emergencies, including fire, gas leaks, or spills.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency equipment locations and response procedures.
Permit to Work & Isolation Activities
- Learn and assist in the permit-to-work system, including preparation of job permits.
- Support isolation, locking, and tagging of equipment during maintenance activities under supervision.
- Work toward gaining certification as an Area Authority for permit issuing.
Maintenance & Reliability Support
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to prepare equipment for maintenance.
- Monitor and verify the proper return to service of equipment post-maintenance.
Control Room Interaction
- Collaborate with panel operators to understand process control logic and participate in operations coordination.
- Communicate field observations to the control room and respond to directives promptly.
Training & Development
- Complete rotations across different operating units as part of the graduate framework.
- Participate in classroom and on-the-job training related to process safety, plant systems, and equipment.
- Shadow experienced operators and gradually take on more responsibility in daily operations.
Reporting & Documentation
- Accurately record field data, operational logs, and incident reports.
- Contribute to root cause analyses, troubleshooting logs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational Excellence
- Support plant optimization projects and efficiency improvement initiatives.
- Uphold Methanex’s standards for environmental compliance, operational integrity, and quality.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (chemistry major)
- Graduation year: 2023 or later
- Proficient English reading, writing and speaking skills
- Computer literacy with understanding of basic office applications

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Positive can-do attitude & willingness to learn
