The Financial Reporting Analyst reports to the Supervisor, Corporate Reporting and is a key member of the Methanex Corporate Reporting team. This position is responsible for the preparation of external and internal financial reports to senior management and external users and to assist in the global accounting consolidation process. The reports encompass the consolidated worldwide operations of Methanex. Key responsibilities include analyzing regional and consolidated monthly and quarterly financial results (including forecasts); preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and related disclosures; and technical accounting analysis for new standards or changes in the business. This position also works with other members of the Corporate Reporting team in performing accounting and analysis for management reporting.

Position Responsibilities

Timely and accurate preparation and analysis of internal and external financial reports

  • Preparation of internal reporting packages, including consolidation of global forecasts (monthly)
  • Analysis of the business environment and financial data received from regional accounting offices (monthly), including changes in:
    • Global production and inventory volumes,
    • Production costs by plant,
    • Regional working capital,
    • Selling, General, and administrative costs, logistic costs, financing costs, and other costs, etc.
  • Preparation of executive analysis package, MD&A, financial statements and related disclosures (quarterly)
  • Assists with external audit and review process
  • Prepare and post journal entries required for month-end close, including maintenance of the journal entry schedule (monthly)
  • Preparation and analysis of support working papers for intercompany elimination (monthly)
  • Preparation and analysis of recurring technical accounting matters, including:
    • Preparation and analysis of share-based compensation expense (quarterly)
  • Preparation and analysis of gas hedging calculations (quarterly)

Preparation and analysis of other recurring and non-recurring reports, disclosure requirements, and technical accounting matter

  • Recalculation and review of offtake agreements
  • Discuss with regions on various business and accounting matters
  • Preparation of memo and analysis on accounting matters, as required
  • Assists and prepare reports, as required, to support other departments, including Treasury, Risk Management, Investor Relations, Financial Systems, etc.

Continuous improvement on processes and systems

  • Analyze changes in the business and work with Oracle Solutions team to maintain system generated financial reports, find efficiencies, and improve reporting processes for Corporate Reporting
  • Be the go-to technical support for financial reports for the regional finance groups
  • Liaise with accounting staff in all regions to create solutions for accounting/reporting challenges
  • Enhance consistency and quality of global reports and processes

Position Qualifications

Education and/or Professional Designation

  • Formal accounting education and CPA designation or equivalent

Experience and Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • 3+ years in a financial reporting role or equivalent public practice experience
  • Solid accounting technical and analytical skills with global financial reporting and consolidation experience
  • ERP/Integrated accounting systems and reporting tools (Oracle experience preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills including Word and Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience working with multiple currencies
