Position Summary
As a Process Engineer Graduate at Methanex Egypt, you will support the process engineering function, reporting to the Process Engineering Superintendent in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will participate in performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and improvement initiatives, gaining exposure to key process engineering activities during both routine operations startups and shutdowns. Also, you will participate in site execution supervision during plant shutdowns. Through mentorship, on-the-job training, and structured development, you will enhance your technical and analytical skills while contributing to plant optimization and reliability.
Position Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze daily equipment and plant performance parameters; compare actual vs. optimum and design values and recommend actions to enhance efficiency and reliability and own the process of implementation these actions and stakeholders’ alignment.
- Evaluate the performance of the key plant equipment/systems; for example, thermal/hydraulic performance of heat exchangers, performance and efficiency of pumps and compressors, conversion and KPIs of reactors, and other process equipment and develop improvement recommendations.
- Calculating daily plant production, efficiency and natural gas consumption, GHG, and Plant KPIs advising operations on opportunities for optimization.
- Support troubleshooting efforts by analyzing process data and working closely with the operations team to resolve process upsets and prevent unplanned shutdowns.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and operational investigations to identify causes of process deviations or trips, and to own the implementation of the corrective/improvement actions.
- Assist in initiating and executing Management of Change (MOC) activities by developing conceptual designs and technical documentation.
- Perform various types of process engineering calculations; for example, pressure drop calculations, PSV calculations, heat transfer calculations, reactor conversion related calculations, Aspen Hysys simulations, advanced Ms. Excel analysis and others.
- Prepare or update key engineering documents such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), data sheets, and line lists.
- Support hazard identification and risk assessment activities including Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for proposed modifications and for plant operational risks.
- Issue daily, weekly, and monthly reports highlighting plant and equipment performance, efficiency trends, and areas for improvement.
- Assist in developing or reviewing operating procedures, guidelines, and technical studies.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, operations, PSM and HSE to ensure safe execution of projects and plant modifications.
- Participate in plant shutdown planning and provide process input to ensure safe and effective turnaround execution and participate in site work supervision.
- Ensure all activities comply with Methanex safety standards, site rules, and environmental regulations.
- Participation in technical and soft skills training as part of Methanex’s graduate development path.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, petrochemical engineering, refining petrochemical engineering or gas processing engineering.
- Graduation year: 2023 or later
