Position Summary
The Global Supply Chain Analyst is responsible for conducting analysis in support of supply chain decisions – including vessel movements, target inventory levels and spot purchase requirements over a 120-day planning horizon. Analysis includes comparison of cost and risk for various tactical decisions with consideration of factors such as security of supply, cost, and value creation.
This position is also responsible for supporting all reporting activities related to the Global Supply Chain function, including weekly supply/demand balances, inventory reports, vessel tracking, cost management reports, and KPIs.
The Analyst supports the Latin America Supply Chain & Operations team in the sourcing and planning of the West Coast Latin America region, while also providing backup coverage for the Global Tactical Planner. In this capacity, the role contributes to the Global Supply Chain team by supporting the development, communication, and execution of near-term tactical supply chain plans that ensure optimal customer reliability while maximizing value for the company.
This position is also a key contact and Subject Matter Expert for any IT projects related to or impacting the Global Supply Chain function.
Position Responsibilities
Reporting Activities
- Prepares and analyzes weekly reports (e.g.supply/demand update, terminal inventory report, tactical plan) and presents findings to the Global Supply Chain team for decision-making
- Prepares and analyzes monthly reports (e.g.Global Supply Chain report, inventory reconciliation, operations plan, sales forecast) to aid in the forecast of supply / demand balances, inventory and financial results liaising with regional and head office Finance teams
- Develops and updates cost management reports, supply chain KPIs and other reports to track performance of supply plans and to initiate the process of learning and identification of opportunities
- Provides inputs to the Strategic Market Planning Team, primarily information on product flows among Atlantic and Pacific basins for the preparation of monthly methanol market outlook reports
- Supports delivery of strategic reporting and analysis in support of medium and long-term planning as required
Tactical Planning Analysis and Support
- Analyzes global supply/demand balances and tactical decisions with the objective of identifying trends, areas of risk, and potential improvements
- Maintains effective communications with key stakeholders to ensure timely sharing of high-quality information on which to report and make decisions
- Supports intra-regional planning and reporting of elements of supply and demand in collaboration with Swaps teams, Purchasing teams, and Regional Customer Service & Logistics teams
- Communicates closely with Waterfront Shipping to ensure decisions impacting vessel movements and associated cost are properly reflected in tactical planning analyses
- Acts as back-up to the Global Tactical Planner ensuring tactical plans and decisions continue to maintain and enhance security of supply to customers
- Supports Latin America Supply Chain & Operations team in sourcing and planning of the West Coast Latin America region
- Assists in the management of short-term operational issues and the identification and evaluation of contingency planning as required
IT Project Support
- Provides support in all IT Initiatives related to or impacting Global Supply Chain function
- Synthesizes and communicates key business requirements to IT technical teams
Position Qualifications
- University degree, preferably in an associated discipline (e.g. engineering, business)
- 1-3 years’ work experience in supply chain and logistics, participating in multiregional teams within context of global business operations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to see the big picture and understand the drivers behind the figures in reports
- Excellent communication skills with ability to summarize and clearly present conclusions and key themes after preparing and analyzing reports
- Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships to elicit action and influence without formal authority
- Ability to identify and execute value-added cross-functional processes that deliver competitive advantage in cost, quality of service, people, and environment
- Solid understanding of the dynamics of a global commodity business that influence supply/demand and cost
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel through experience with data analysis; strong working proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Oracle ERP and/or Demand & Supply Chain Planning software would be an asset
