Position Summary

The Process Engineering Summer Student supports the Process Engineering team by contributing to technical, analytical, and field-based activities related to plant operations. This role provides hands-on experience applying process engineering principles in an industrial setting, with exposure to plant systems, process safety, and Methanex standards.

The student will work closely with experienced engineers to support ongoing initiatives, troubleshoot operational issues, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts, gaining practical experience in a dynamic, safety-focused environment.

This is a temporary opportunity with a duration of four (4) months.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support process engineers in monitoring plant performance, operating conditions, and key process parameters.
  • Assist with data gathering and analysis to identify trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in troubleshooting process issues under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assist in the development and updating of process documentation, procedures, and reports.
  • Support process safety initiatives, including participation in hazard reviews and risk assessments in a support or observer capacity.
  • Track and document Process Safety Management (PSM) actions and follow-ups.
  • Contribute to process-related projects by assisting with calculations, basic modelling, and technical analysis.
  • Participate in turnaround and outage activities, supporting planning and execution as required.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to collect operational data and verify plant conditions.
  • Apply fundamental process engineering principles in a practical, industrial environment.
  • Collaborate across multiple projects and teams to build technical knowledge and gain exposure to plant operations and engineering workflows.
  • Adhere to Methanex safety standards and Responsible Care® principles, including participation in safety training and behavioral-based safety programs.

Position Qualifications

Experience and Technical Knowledge/Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering degree program.
  • Completion of at least second or third year of study at an accredited university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4-point scale
  • Basic understanding of process engineering principles and fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Exposure to process simulation or modelling tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS) is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated interest in process safety, plant operations, or industrial environments is considered an asset.
