What position will you have?
Reporting to the Director, Low Carbon Regulation and Advocacy, the Europe Lead, Low Carbon Regulation & Advocacy, is responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and responding to regulatory developments affecting low‑carbon methanol, with a particular focus on European regulators.

Central to the role is the ability to assess and articulate the implications of regulatory developments for the Low Carbon Solutions (LCS) business, ensuring regulatory risk, opportunity, and strategic impact are clearly understood. The Europe Lead, Low Carbon Regulation & Advocacy, will identify advocacy priorities arising from these regulatory assessments and will develop and deliver advocacy strategies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, notably the Methanol Institute (“MI”) and its EU Working Group, while also developing and leveraging other strategic alliances.

As a key member of the Low Carbon Solutions team, the Europe Lead, Low Carbon Regulation & Advocacy, will also ensure timely and effective communication of regulatory developments and their business implications to internal stakeholders, enabling informed commercial and strategic decision‑making. The role will represent the company’s low‑carbon methanol interests in relevant external forums, actively contributing to regulatory debates and advocacy efforts. It will also provide ongoing support and guidance to colleagues across functions, fostering alignment, improving regulatory literacy, and embedding a strong understanding of regulatory drivers and advocacy needs across the LCS business.

Position Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

Establish efficient European regulatory monitoring, communication and engagement.
• Maintain Methanex’s system for monitoring European regulatory developments, including use of network contacts and IT tools.
• Develop user-centric approach to keeping LCS stakeholders abreast of regulatory developments.
• Run efficient processes to consult and align with LCS stakeholders on regulatory issues.

Develop advocacy plans and instigate and support related advocacy initiatives in the European sphere.
• Develop a standard framework for advocacy plans to facilitate cross functional understanding, engagement and status monitoring.
• Prepare and maintain advocacy plans for key European regulatory issues that include stakeholder assessments, advocacy objectives and supporting actions.
• Instigate and support advocacy initiatives, which fully leverage relationships with Methanex’s existing industry representative organisations like the Methanol Institute.
• Propose collaboration with new advocacy partners to achieve advocacy objectives that are not possible or unsuitable with existing partners.

Provide ongoing support and guidance to LCS team stakeholders.
• Be regarded as a go to resource for European regulatory matters for the Methanex Business Development team focusing on low carbon methanol and ammonia for segments including maritime, road and chemicals.
• Proactively propose and prepare solutions to Supply and Business Development related regulatory issues.

Contribute to development and influence of Methanex representative organizations, including the Methanol Institute (MI) and its EU Working Group.
• Actively seek to shape the agenda and priorities of the MI EU Working Group.
• Seek to ensure that the MI is aware of, and consulted on, advocacy initiatives instigated by others.
• Maximise the opportunities to leverage Methanex’s representative organisations to advance Methanex’s advocacy objectives.
• Contribute to development of MI and other’s advocacy plans and initiatives, and ensure alignment with MX’s.
• Help drive participation and engagement with MI’s EU WG through adding to the quality of deliberations.

Position Qualifications

Your experience and hard skills
• Completed university degree in Political Science & International Relations, Environment or Energy Economics, Environmental Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 7 to 10 years of experience in similar industries with global operations, understanding economic drivers and their influences.
• Excellent spoken and written English, plus French/Dutch/German or another EU language would be an advantage.

Other information
• International travel, approximately four to six times annually, may be required.
• Due to collaboration across global time zones, the role will at times involve work beyond standard working hours.
