The safety and well-being of our employees, contractors and the communities in which we do business is our number one priority.
Our people are our greatest asset and we are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment. We firmly believe that all work-related injuries and illnesses are preventable. We design and manage our health and safety programs and process safety programs with the ultimate goal of achieving a zero-injury and zero-release workplace year after year.
Our process safety management program helps ensure the integrity of our operating plants and processes to reduce the risk of incidents. We align our global and regional programs with the Center for Chemical Process Safety's Guidelines for Risk Based Process Safety which leverages global lessons learned from process safety incidents around the world.
We are committed to ongoing external benchmarking across various Responsible Care related disciplines and voluntarily share our recordable injury safety data with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada and the American Chemistry Council. We also participate in the Safety and Health Analysis, Recognition and Exchange (SHARE) program, which compares the injury and illness performance of member companies against industry averages and best practices.
COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND IMPROVEMENT
As part of our commitment to safety culture and continuous improvement, we are broadly sharing our learnings with the goal that they may help prevent a similar incident elsewhere.
In 2016, an incident occurred at our Methanex Medicine Hat manufacturing facility during the demolition of an abandoned piece of equipment. Fortunately, no one was harmed, but we felt it was important to take this opportunity to develop a video to focus on what happened and why.
