Methanex promotes safe methanol fuel use in China
Methanex continues to promote safe and responsible methanol fuel use in China. This year the Chinese government has expanded its high-blend methanol fuel trials, and invited Methanex to deliver Responsible Care® seminars in four Chinese provinces.
China has more than 100 million passenger vehicles and is the largest user of methanol for automotive fuel. Following previous successful methanol fuel pilots, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) expanded its M100 methanol vehicle pilot program to Shanxi, Guizhou, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.
MIIT invited Methanex to deliver Responsible Care® seminars to local stakeholders in these provinces. On July 7 and July 26, Methanex hosted seminars in Jinzhong, Shanxi province, and Guiyang, Guizhou province. The seminars were attended by more than 300 participants including local government departments, local methanol producers, methanol fuel blenders and distributors, methanol vehicle manufacturers, methanol trucking companies, methanol taxi companies, and drivers’ training schools.
Jinzhong was the first city in the MIIT pilot program to be positively appraised by MIIT and other ministries, and it is considered a Center of Excellence for methanol fuel application in China and around the globe. At this seminar, Methanex was pleased to host Professor Yao, Tianjin University, to share his expertise about methanol fuel vehicle testing.
In Guiyang, methanol vehicles are newer so Methanex provided an introduction to methanol energy applications as well as Responsible Care ® ethics and principles. We were supported by experts from the methanol vehicle maker Geely, and methanol fuel distributor Tianding Company who shared their experience in safe operation of methanol vehicles and safe handling of methanol fuel.
Responsible Care® training is key to laying a solid foundation for the safe expansion of the methanol fuel market in China. Methanex looks forward to continuing to extending our support to the methanol fuel blending and methanol fuel vehicle industries in China by promoting Responsible Care® and safe use.
