Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide reports of financial information of the consolidated worldwide operations of Methanex to senior management and external users. Key responsibilities include analyzing regional and consolidated monthly and quarterly financial results (including forecasts); preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and related disclosures; and technical accounting analysis for new standards or changes in the business. This role reviews the global consolidation and will also be looked towards for providing leadership in maintaining corporate reporting procedures and implementing complex accounting requirements.
Position Responsibilities
Internal Reporting (Monthly)
- Provide effective leadership through management of the Financial Reporting Analysts to ensure accurate, timely and useful internal financial reporting documents.
- Review work performed by the Financial Reporting Analysts and oversee the reconciliation of the global consolidation process
- Preparation of summarized financial results and quarterly forecast through the completion of income statements analysis, and review and analysis of ocean freight, logistics costs and COS plug variance.
- Overall analysis of business environment and financial data received from regional accounting offices.
- Frequent contact with regions to keep pulse on issues or challenges they are facing to anticipate impact on our results
- Obtain, analyse, and report on regional submissions through knowledge of the business
- Own complex financial models and build in additional analysis as requested due to changes in IFRS or in the business
External Reporting (Quarterly)
- Provide effective leadership through management of the Financial Reporting Analyst to ensure timely delivery of accurate, and useful external financial reporting documents.
- Preparation of MD&A, financial statements and related disclosures, executive analysis package and press release, including reconciliation of income statement analysis to the GL
- Assists with external audit and review process
- Prepare and analyse complex accounting issues, such as share based compensation, derivative gas contract valuations, etc and ensure appropriate implementation of processes and procedures globally
- Prepare or review reconciliations and reports for other departments, including transfer pricing team, treasury, risk management, corporate development, financial system, etc
- Provide information and coordinate with supply chain team and Waterfront Shipping to ensure alignment on reported logistics cost
- Assist team members with complex financial accounting issues and reconciliations
Audited financial statements (Annual), and other reporting requirements, including year-end accounting issues
- Assist in preparation of Audited and consolidated financial statements, MD&A, note disclosure, and other financial information
- Assist with continuous disclosure documents such as annual report, Info Circ, AIF
- Analysis of year-end accounting issues, with respect to key judgments and technical accounting areas and preparation of Audit Committee papers
- Co-ordination and preparation of pension financial statements
- Co-ordination and review of audit working papers
Organizational Leadership
- Align Financial Reporting Analyst to achieve departmental results by communicating expectations; planning and supervising work; managing performance; coaching; and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and standards.
- Develop, mentor, and lead the Financial Reporting Analyst by training employee for technical progressions
- Analyses accounting issues arising from new accounting and reporting standards or changes in the business
- Discuss with regions on various business and accounting matters and provide guidance to regional offices for significant and/or unusual transactions to ensure all transactions are recorded
- Ensure system processes and documents are in accordance with applicable legislation and company guidelines.
Continuous improvement on processes and systems
- Analyze changes in the business and work with Oracle Solutions team to maintain system generated financial reports, find efficiencies, and improve reporting processes for Corporate Reporting
- Be the go-to technical support for financial reports for the regional finance groups
- Liaise with accounting staff in all regions to create solutions for accounting/reporting challenges
- Enhance consistency and quality of global reports and processes

Position Qualifications
Education and/or Professional Designation
- University degree in Business and/or Finance (Commerce/Accounting)
- CPA designation or equivalent
Experience and Technical Skills/Knowledge
- 6+ years of post-designation accounting and/or industry experience
- Strong financial accounting and reporting knowledge
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills
- Exposure to significant consolidations, ideally involving foreign subsidiaries
- Exposure to public company disclosure and reporting, preferably IFRS
- Excellent computer skills including Word and Advanced Excel skills
- Experience in managing direct reports is preferred
