Supervisor, Accounting

Position Summary

The Supervisor, Accounting contributes to the effective financial management of Waterfront Shipping. This position has primary responsibility for the financial reporting, forecasting, variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliation for Waterfront Shipping. The role also assists in developing and managing the accounting and finance function to meet the growing needs of the department.

Position Responsibilities

  • Financial and management reporting, including:
    • Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements
    • Review of quarterly consolidation and GAAP adjustments
    • Review joint venture reporting
    • Maintain and monitor key performance indicators in measuring performance and bench marking (e.g. costs indicators, utilization, and key operational statistics).
    • Review month-end reconciliations
    • Develop annual budgets and forecasts
    • Review of cash flow forecasts
    • Prepare statutory reporting (e.g. taxation, local financial statements)
    • Ensure SOX compliance
    • Review Transfer pricing analysis (quarterly requirement)
  • Day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance function, including:
    • Management of A/R, A/P (including wire approvals), and cash flow
    • Review of voyage P&L costing of vessels
    • Provide leadership and guidance to direct reports
  • Special projects, such as:
    • Prepare Freight analysis
    • Liaison with internal and external auditors
    • Utilizing ERP system to generate new reports
  • Continuous improvement of WFS Management System (RC/ISO), including:
    • A focus on producing accurate reports and addressing issues that may affect accuracy
    • Be a subject matter expert representing Waterfront Accounting for IMOS and Oracle requirements, upgrades, patches and testing

Position Qualifications

  • 8+ years accounting experience, including public practice experience
  • Proven leadership skills, with supervisory experience in leading a team of direct reports
  • Sound technical accounting and financial knowledge with understanding of relevant legislation
  • Experience in relevant industry (e.g. shipping, oil & gas, mining, chemicals) an asset
  • Proven ability to integrate and analyze quantitative and qualitative information to draw accurate conclusions and sound recommendations
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and O365 suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint) to handle complex worksheets with significant amounts of data
  • Experience with corporate financial information systems
  • Must be extremely organized with commitment to meet deadlines and deliver results through self and others
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively collaborate with others, while also having the ability to work independently with limited supervision
