Rotating Equipment Supervisor

Position Summary

Provide people and technical leadership to manage and maintain safe and reliable operations of the rotating equipment assets at Methanex USA.

The role will focus on fostering a strong safety-based attitude in everyday activities, ensure direct reports are trained and competent, and maintain local and global rotating equipment standards while working within outlined budgets.

The incumbent will provide coaching and mentorship to promote accountability and ownership of the assets.

Position Responsibilities

  • Effectively leads the rotating team to achieve the vision and goals of the department, site and organization.
  • Provides broader and more strategic perspective of the assets through deeper assessment and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Develops the competencies and capabilities of the team, ensuring proper succession planning.
  • Ensures team business and development goals are developed and achieved for team members.
  • Conducts regular performance reviews with team members, offering career guidance and providing constructive feedback on positive contributions and areas for improvement.
  • Motivates and engages the team to perform at peak level.
  • Collaborates with other team leaders to resolve challenges and optimize efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.
  • Coordinates prompt, safe and quality repairs to process equipment through accurate scheduling and time management.
  • Provides input to develop strategic goals for the site.
  • Communicates to stakeholders effectively and timely.
  • Manages contractor relationships.
  • Actively seeks out continuous improvement opportunities that enhances HSSEQ, productivity, reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Manages the rotating equipment maintenance program, ensuring work is completed safely, reliably, efficiently, timely and cost effectively to required level of quality.
  • Works with outside contractor companies to create key working relationships.
  • Supports the team in achieving tactical goals, providing required tools and equipment to be successful while removing obstacles and hindrances.
  • Manages unplanned breakdowns to minimize production loss, re-deploying resources and ensuring appropriate risk mitigation is incorporated into the plan.
  • Ensures all the tools and equipment for the team are available and in good working condition for execution of work, in particular special tools for critical rotating equipment.
  • Supervises shutdown and turnaround work planning and execution by coordinating the short and long-term plans with the key stakeholders.
  • Manages mechanical contractors and maintenance contracts, in compliance with contractor management system requirements.
  • Collaborates with other crafts and departments to ensure work is properly aligned and prioritized.
  • Provides rotating equipment advice and technical expertise to supporting crafts and Millwright technicians.
  • Provides guidance to the team to troubleshoot plant issues and identify root causes.
  • Assigns work and reviews team logs, reporting and QA/QC documentation, ensuring corrective action is taken when required.
  • Audits jobs plans, JHA documents and field execution.
  • Proactively seeks more efficient ways to design, plan and execute work.
  • Ensures all plant maintenance is implemented in accordance with Methanex standards, best practices and all relevant USA legislation.
  • Supports the Reliability team with resolving plant issues.
  • Collaborates with Reliability and Mechanical Engineers to develop and optimize the maintenance program to meet plant availability requirements.
  • Manages, inputs and investigates Incident Management system (IMS) incidents when required.
  • Collaborates with warehouse and reliability teams to ensure critical equipment spares are identified and available.
  • Recognizes the Operations team as a key stakeholder and customer in executing duties.
  • Ensures work is performed efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Available for call-out.
  • Ensures all plant changes are implemented in accordance with the applicable Methanex Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
  • Reviews engineering design packages to ensure all maintenance requirements are met.
  • Provides regular, timely updates about rotating work and team to relevant stakeholders, including Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance Manager, Production Coordinators, Global Experts etc.
  • Keeps Millwright team informed through regular interactive communications.
  • Maintains good and regular communications with contractor companies to ensure timely feedback regarding progress and performance.
  • Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism.

  • Promotes and demonstrates strong Responsible Care behaviors through daily interaction with all stakeholders.
  • Good administration management and follow up on actions related to CMMS and incident management systems.
  • Actively participates on GRET (Global Rotating Equipment Team).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Networks with other Methanex sites to the mutual benefit of all sites.
  • Responsible for ensuring awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position as per Document Awareness Report from Document Management Database.
  • Contribute to the ‘operational excellence’ for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Maintenance Department.

Position Qualifications

  • Relevant Engineering Degree with at least of 5 years of rotating equipment experience; OR Millwright Trade Certification with at least 8 years of rotating equipment experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • All candidates must have a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Experienced in Managing Projects.
  • Experience with Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs.
  • Experience with Reliability techniques and analysis.
  • Experience with development and implementation of Strategy.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience with ISO 9000.
  • Able to set and meet deadlines which can arise at short notice.
  • Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good at building and maintaining relationships.
  • Good team player.
  • Good decision-making skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
