Position Summary
The Manager, Responsible Care is a key leadership role accountable for the strategic oversight and operational excellence of the Responsible Care function at Methanex. As a member of the Site Management Team, the Manager leads the development and execution of site-level HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality) strategies and programs that align with corporate objectives and Responsible Care® principles.
This role champions a strong safety culture, drives process safety and emergency preparedness, and ensures regulatory compliance through proactive leadership and collaboration across departments and with the Global Responsible Care Team (GRCT). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-impact HSSEQ initiatives, managing departmental resources, and achieving key performance indicators to support the safe, reliable, and sustainable operation of the site.
Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the development and execution of Responsible Care strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, site priorities, and regulatory expectations.
- Oversee the implementation of world-class Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (HSSEQ) systems to ensure a robust safety culture and regulatory compliance.
- Build and mentor a high-performing, cross-functional Responsible Care team through coaching, training, and succession planning.
- Ensure the site is fully prepared for emergency situations through training, resource planning, and management of the Emergency Response Plan.
- Lead the investigation and reporting of incidents, using findings to drive continuous improvement and risk mitigation across the site.
- Develop and track meaningful performance indicators (KPIs), providing analysis and initiating corrective actions to improve site HSSEQ outcomes.
- Manage the Responsible Care operational and capital budgets, ensuring cost effectiveness and alignment with strategic and operational goals.
- Represent Methanex in industry groups such as CIAC and GRCT, contributing to external advocacy, knowledge sharing, and alignment with global best practices.
- Act as the site’s designated compliance contact for environmental, safety, and process integrity legislation, ensuring all requirements are met and changes communicated.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Projects, Production, and other departments to proactively assess and manage risks across all site activities.
Position Qualifications
Experience, Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, with relevant experience in petroleum or chemical plant operations, and a professional designation in a Responsible Care–related field.
- A master’s degree in science, Engineering, Management, or Business is considered an asset.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in a petrochemical facility or similar industrial environment.
- 5+ years of proven experience leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Formal training or certification in one or more areas of Responsible Care, such as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Process Safety Management, or Emergency Response.
- Strong understanding of EHS regulations and standards, with demonstrated experience in implementing and managing EHS systems.
- Experience in plant operations and/or strong working knowledge of petrochemical processes is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other software relevant to the role.
