Accounting Assistant- Temporary

Position Summary
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing management accounting and financial reporting support to the commercial shipping area and contributing to the effective financial management of Waterfront Shipping (WFS). The primary responsibilities of this position include a variety of accounts receivable, cash flow management, data entry, reconciliations, projects, and problem-solving responsibilities. It assures smooth operation of receivable accounts, provides support to internal departments, accountants, and external inquiries.
Position Responsibilities
Day to day transactions
- Prepare month-end entries relating to cash receipts of third party, intercompany and unusual transactions
- Confirm and verify various items relating to invoicing and accounts receivable transactions for adjustments
- Organize and electronically file receivable, journal entries, and other related documents for audit purposes
- Prepare and record estimated voyage costs in IMOS
- Prepare and post journal entries in IMOS
- Provide accounts receivable and accounts payable support to finance department as required
Schedules and reports
- Prepare cashflow forecast reports to Treasury department on a weekly basis
- Reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts
- Compile and provide schedules relating to transfer pricing projects
- Contribute to financial reporting and variance analysis
- Liaison with internal and external auditors as required to assist with audit
- Prepare Methanol bunker purchase reports
- Provide ad-hoc reports as required
- Prepare and file monthly GST/HST reporting
- Reconciliation of bank accounts and posting of FX adjustments
Continuous improvements
- Provide support to WFS continuous improvement process by ensuring accurate invoicing and adjustments
- Reconcile accounts, prepare schedules and develop special projects for various accountants, managers, operations, and others requesting for information
- Utilise IMOS advance functionality for the development of KPIs
Position Qualifications
Education and/ or Professional Designation
- University Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Finance or experienced candidate with at least 3 years related accounting skills/experience in a similar capacity with an international organization
- Progress towards related professional designation an asset
Experience & Skills
- Experience in logistics or supply chain industries is desirable
- Experience working in multinational company with multiple currencies
- Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office suite; in particular, advanced skills in Excel
- Experience with an ERP System an asset
- Must be extremely organized to meet tight deadlines, detail oriented, and accurate
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to manage several competing priorities at once
- Conceptual skills to analyze situations and problems to find viable, timely solutions
- Self-directed, proactive, highly motivated to learn
- Collaborative, flexible team player
