Position Summary
Provides finance support to Methanex Geismar in order to achieve daily operational excellence, improved business processes, and timely financial and management reporting while maintaining global, local and statutory compliance.
Working under the guidance of the Finance Leadership Team (Procurement Lead, Cost Accounting Supervisor and Financial Accounting Supervisor), the Graduate in Training (Git) – Finance will support the Finance Department while gaining an understanding of the Methanex Geismar Site operations.
Position Responsibilities
- Assists with Month End Close Processes when needed.
- Assists with Reconciliation of Accounts.
- Assists with development of 3 Year Budget for the site.
- Supports Turnarounds when needed.
- Reviews Sarbanes Oxley Process Narratives.
- Participates in Interim Sarbanes Oxley testing.
- Special Project: Sales and Use Tax Reporting Improvements.
- Assists with development of 3 Year Budgets for Production, Variable Cost, Fixed Cost and Capital Expenditures.
- Provides key decision makers with accurate and timely information.
- Explores opportunities for cost saving initiatives.
- Assists with monitoring and reporting on current and future capital projects, ensuring compliance with codes of practice and Methanex principles.
- Supports the Senior Projects Accountant and Turnaround Team with financial services provided to projects, including but not limited to economic evaluations, recording, monitoring, forecasting, reporting, financial analysis and trending.
- Assists with preparing daily cost updates to Senior Plant Management during the execution phase.
- Assists with Earned Value Management system to measure project performance and progress.
- Supports the close out of project accounts upon project completion.
- Assists in implementation of cross-functional (procurement – finances) projects: (PO life cycle with focus on closing transactions out – accounts payable, vendor audits, participating in & auditing inventory cycle counts, analysis & participation on handling marshalled inventory, etc.).
- Evaluates and Implements a tool for Pre and Post Contract Documentation tracking and compliance.
- Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism.
- Demonstrated through feedback from team and leaders.
- Undertakes all aspects of the role through living the Methanex values.
- Conducts all business in a manner which supports the Responsible Care® ethic.
- Networks with other Methanex sites to the mutual benefit of all sites.
- Responsible for ensuring awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position as per Document Awareness Report from Document Management Database.
- Contribute to the ‘operational excellence’ for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Finance Department.
- Provides ad hoc support to other Methanex Geismar Site Departments as requested.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Completed Introductory Accounting courses.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to liaise appropriately with internal and external clients, agencies and stakeholders at all levels.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Awareness of business ethics, eye for detail and integrity.
- Good organizing and planning skills.
- Enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to work within in a team environment as well as independently, with minimum supervision.
- Capacity to exercise sound judgment; initiative; and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel(required) and PowerPoint.
