Position Summary

The Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial expertise for the Methanex Medicine Hat site facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources.  This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies and sound governance.

This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of August 29, 2025.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for an up-to-date business position.
  • Deliver financial updates during site management reviews.
  • Collaborate with department managers and stakeholders to develop effective cost management strategies.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger balances through journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Review Authorization for Expenditures (AFE’s) for completeness and reasonableness, ensuring Company policy approvals.
  • Liaise with project managers for timely project close-outs and provide clear monthly reporting on capital programs, project status, and costs.
  • Work with Project Leads to optimize processes and reporting for project cost management.
  • Champion changes for Financial and Asset Management systems, identifying improvements within and across departments.
  • Manage fixed assets register, depreciation schedules, and provide depreciation estimates for site forecasts.
  • Coordinate annual 3-year site capital plan, production, opex budget, and forecast submissions, including management reviews.
  • Facilitate regular review discussions on actual and forecast results with department managers, project leads, and stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed analysis of trends, comparisons, and accurate, relevant, reliable, and timely financial reports to corporate finance, treasury, senior management, and Global Manufacturing Team.
  • Design and prepare management reports with high-quality analysis for projects and initiatives.
  • Present monthly financial results to the site management team with analysis of significant items, trends, and budget comparisons.
  • Evaluate commercial agreements for continued economic viability, including CO2 and electricity.
  • Review invoicing, price adjustments, and perform economic evaluations for projects as needed.
  • Understand provincial property and machinery & equipment assessment reporting requirements and liaise with consultants to ensure fairness.
  • Review tax assessments, approve vendor additions/changes, payment runs, and maintain Sarbanes Oxley process narratives.
  • Collaborate with internal & external auditors, coordinating information requests, and ensuring timely filing of statutory and statistical reporting.
  • Provide input for the implementation of new financial systems or modules, optimizing their capability and use.
  • Contribute to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership, demonstrating core values through feedback from the team and leaders.

Position Qualifications

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in business, economics, finance, or accounting required.
  • Completion or enrollment in a professional accounting designation program
  • 2-5 years in relevant accounting positions including demonstrated experience in general ledger, budgets, reporting and financial analysis.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation
  • Excellent financial, analytical, research and communication skills; ability to question results and not accept information at face value.
  • Possess the aptitude to run and use specific systems such as Oracle.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems/applications, excellent Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e., pivot tables, VLookup)
  • Demonstrated success in leading a team and developing direct reports is an asset.
