in Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad
and Tobago, with its large natural gas reserves, highly skilled
workers and strategic location to Methanex markets, is an
ideal low-cost production location. Methanex supplies North
American and Western European methanol markets from its Trinidad
facility.
The
facility's total production is averaged at 2.5 million tonnes
per year, all of which is exported, contributing to Trinidad
and Tobago's position as the world's leading methanol exporter.
The
Methanex Trinidad Titan Plant
The
Methanex Trinidad facility, located on the Point Lisas Industrial
Estate, uses the latest oxygen reforming technology in making
methanol. The Titan Plant produces 850,000 tonnes of methanol
a year. It began commercial production in June 2000.
The
Atlas Facility
The
Atlas facility was constructed adjacent to the Titan Plant,
in a joint venture between Methanex Corporation (63.1 per
cent) and BP Trinidad and Tobago (36.9 per cent). bpTT is
a major upstream gas producer accounting for approximately
70 per cent of the country's natural gas production.
The
Atlas facility, which began production in mid-2004, has a
production capacity of 1.7 million tonnes per year and is
one of the largest single train methanol plants in the world.
The engineering design features an on-site air separation
plant that is one of the largest of its kind, with the capacity
to produce 2,800 tonnes of pure oxygen per day.
