|Methanex in Chile|
Since 1998, Methanex has invested more than $1.3 billion in its Chilean production facilities located in Cabo Negro, near the city of Punta Arenas in the heart of Southern Chile's petroleum and gas producing region. The strategically situated plant site enables Methanex to ship methanol by tanker to all its major markets in Asia, South and North America, Europe and South Africa. Methanex also has a sales and marketing office in Santiago.
The Cabo Negro site originally had four productive plants, currently two of them are in the process of relocation in Geismar, Louisiana in USA. Due to gas supply restrictions, the Cabo Negro site is operating at reduced capacity levels.
In 2010 Methanex Chile completed the construction of a wind park in Magallanes that has a generation capacity of 2.55 megawatts. This is the first industrial-scale wind energy park in the area and demonstrates the viability of wind power as an alternative energy source, plant rate during the first year of operations was around 52%.
As of May 3, 2007 Methanex shares are offered for trading on the Foreign Securities Market of the Santiago Stock Exchange of Chile. The shares trade in United States dollars under the trading symbol "Methanex". For more information about Methanex in Chile (in Spanish) please visit www.methanex.cl or contact:
