About the Responsible Care Ethic
The following six Codes of Practice from the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association are examples of how companies are guided in the management of chemical products throughout six phases of their life cycle.

3. Manufacturing Code of Practice
The Manufacturing Code is intended to protect people and the environment from chemical hazards during the manufacturing process. Emergency response plans for dealing with incidents on and around the plant site must be in place. Information must be made available to all stakeholders about the materials handled, processes and equipment used, related hazards and associated risks, and the procedures in place for their control. Employees must be aware of and monitor all effluents and emissions into the environment and develop any needed control plans. Sites for new facilities should be chosen in a way that will minimize any adverse impact on the community, environment, industrial neighbours and transportation routes not just when the plant is under construction or operating, but also when it is closed or demolished.
