Methanex
is committed to high environmental and safety standards that
minimize risk to people, the environment and the communities
in every country in which we operate.
The ethic that guides
us in this effort is Responsible
Care®, a risk minimization approach to
operating a company that governs our actions through the complete
life cycle of our products. Developed by the Chemistry Industry
Association of Canada (CIAC), Responsible Care forms the umbrella
under which we manage all our health & safety, environmental,
emergency response, security and community programs.
Part of Methanex's obligations under Responsible Care® is to report to the public annually about our activities related to environmental protection, health & safety and social responsibility. To read our most recent annual Responsible Care and Social Responsibility Report, click here.
Climate Change
Methanex believes that minimizing emissions from our operations is good business practice. As a result, since 1994 Methanex has voluntarily reduced direct, production-based carbon dioxide emission intensity at our plants by 35 percent (as of the end of 2009) through asset turnover and improvements in plant reliability. In addition, Methanex voluntarily participates in greenhouse gas emission reduction plans in countries in which we do not have emission reduction obligations - because it makes good business and environmental sense.
