Environment & Safety

Methanex is committed to high environmental and safety standards that minimize risk to people, the environment and the communities in every country in which we operate.

Responsible Care ® , developed by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), forms the umbrella under which we manage all our health & safety, environmental, product stewardship, emergency response, security and social responsibility programs.

Part of Methanex's obligations under Responsible Care® is to report to the public annually about our activities related to environmental protection, health & safety and social responsibility.

Greenhouse Gas Management Efforts

Methanex believes that minimizing emissions from our operations is good business practice. As a result, since 1994, Methanex has reduced direct, production-based carbon dioxide emission intensity at our plants by 30% (as of the end of 2011) through asset turnover and improvement in plant reliability. In addition, Methanex voluntarily participates in greenhouse gas emission reduction plans in countries in which we do not have emission reduction obligations - because it makes good business and environmental sense.
