Methanex is fully committed to reducing the impact our operations might have on the environment.

Our product, methanol, is a clear liquid made primarily from natural gas. It represents a low risk to the environment because it is soluble in water and readily biodegradable. However, methanol is volatile and can be toxic and must be handled and transported with care at all times. In addition, the methanol production process is very clean, producing few solid or liquid wastes. Nonetheless, all Methanex production facilities have environmental management systems in place.

Our Responsible Care culture ensures that environmental regulatory compliance is only a minimum standard and that we set targets beyond compliance in our environmental protection performance.

Our most recent environmental report, 2005 Methanex Global Environmental Report (PDF), covers the period of January 2002 to December 2004. The next global environmental report will be published in 2008 and will cover the 2005 - 2007 period.
