Methanex's office in Hong Kong administers Social Responsibility programs for all of the company's Asia Pacific Marketing and Logistics offices. After several years's efforts, the company has been successfully initiating an array of programs in line with its social responsibility strategy in Asia Pacific. In China, these activities mainly include:
Educational initiatives - help and inspire
- Initiating two scholarship programs at Taiyuan University of Technology and Beijing University of Chemical Technology, with 9 scholarships for each university.
- Establishing a computer lab at Taiyuan Social Welfare Institute and inspiring students from Taiyuan University of Technology to volunteer as tutors for the kids there on weekends.
- Supporting several high school students through Shanghai Sunrise Foundation since 2009.
- Carrying out a greenhouse project in a primary school in Shaanxi province through China Schools Foundation, helping the students learn more about plant growing and water conservation, as well as developing responsibilities through taking care of the plants, and at the same time involving active interaction with parents.
- Launching a university recruitment program for summer internships at Methanex since 2009.
Financial aid contribution for disaster relief - employees and company
- Raising a donation of approximately US$57,000 to help people affected by the May 12th Sichuan earthquake in 2008.
- Raising a fund of around US$16,400 for Chile earthquake in 2010.
- Raising a total of HK$ 48,934 for Haiti earthquake in 2010.
